About the starting values

The numbers shown when the page opens are placeholders, not industry averages. Move every slider to your own figure before you read the result.

How the estimate is calculated

The calculator multiplies your inbound calls per month by the share nobody answers. That gives unanswered calls per month. It multiplies that figure by the share that were a first call or a price question, then by the share of those families you judge would call another firm. It multiplies the result by twelve and by your average revenue per case. The answer is the revenue at risk each year.

The estimate is only as good as the numbers you enter, and one of them is a judgment. To replace guesses with counts, read how to measure missed calls at a funeral home. To check what you pay now, read what a funeral home answering service costs and how per-call and per-minute billing work.

A missed call is a coverage problem before it is a software problem. An on-call rotation, a live answering service, and an AI receptionist each solve it in a different way. Compare them in after-hours answering for funeral homes and in a live answering service compared with AI phone answering.

Common questions

Does the calculator use industry averages?

No. Every figure is one you enter. The values shown when the page opens are placeholders so the sliders have somewhere to start. Replace each one with a number from your own phone bill, call log, and books before you read the result.

What counts as a missed call?

Any call to your main number that no person answered: a call that rang out, reached voicemail, or was abandoned while on hold. Count calls your answering service answered as answered. Count calls that were forwarded and dropped as missed.

Where do I find how many calls we miss?

Most business phone providers show answered and unanswered calls in an online report. An answering service invoice lists the calls it handled. If you have neither, keep a tally at the front desk and on the on-call phone for two weeks.

How do I estimate how many families call another firm?

That share is a judgment, and the calculator says so. A family your firm has served before will usually call back. A caller asking about price, or one who found you in a search, has less reason to. Try a low figure and a high one and read both results.

Does FuneralHQ answer the phone?

Yes. AI phone answering is an optional part of FuneralHQ. By default your staff phones ring first and the assistant answers only when nobody picks up. It takes the first call, pages your on-call director, and drafts a first call sheet for a person to confirm. It never states a price.

In 20 minutes we call a test line, let the assistant take a sample first call, and open the draft sheet, recording, and transcript it leaves behind.
