Independent funeral home software reviews are published on four sites: Capterra, G2, GetApp and Software Advice. On September 28, 2026 the highest count for any product was 95, and six of the eleven listed products in the table below showed fewer than ten on Capterra. FuneralHQ publishes this article and sells funeral home software, so FuneralHQ cannot credibly review its competitors or itself. This guide shows you where the reviews are, how many each product has, how to read them, and how to get a better answer by calling a reference.
Where can you find real funeral home software reviews?
Real funeral home software reviews are published on four software review sites: Capterra, G2, GetApp and Software Advice. A software review site is a directory where people who use a product rate it and describe their experience, and where vendors can pay for visibility. Each of the four has a funeral home category, and each says it checks that a reviewer is a real person.
Reviews on a vendor’s own website are testimonials, which the vendor chose. Treat a testimonial as marketing, from any vendor. FuneralHQ is one of the products you could look up on the four sites, and on September 28, 2026 it did not appear in any of their funeral home categories.
Which review sites cover funeral home software, and how do they differ?
Four sites cover funeral home software, and G2 has agreed to buy the other three. G2 announced on January 29, 2026 that it had agreed to buy Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp from Gartner, and said it expected the purchase to close in the first quarter of 2026. Capterra’s community guidelines, updated May 4, 2026 and read on September 28, 2026, name G2.com, Capterra, Software Advice and Nubera eBusiness together as G2 Digital Markets. The four sites differ in how many funeral products they list and in how vendors pay to be seen.
| Site | Owner | How the site says it verifies reviews | How the site says vendors pay |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capterra | G2 agreed to buy it from Gartner, announced January 29, 2026 | Reviewer identity must be verifiable. More than 20 checks per review, by moderators and by software | Referral fees for sponsored profiles and qualified leads. Sponsored profiles may appear first |
| G2 | G2.com, Inc. | Sign-in by LinkedIn or a validated email. Employees of the vendor and of direct competitors may not review | G2 says it allows no paid placement in ratings, rankings or reports. Category pages carry advertising marked "Sponsored" |
| GetApp | Same agreement | More than 20 checks per review, and more than 30 human moderators | Vendors pay for sponsored profiles. Sponsored profiles may appear first |
| Software Advice | Same agreement | Moderators confirm the reviewer is a real person and screen for plagiarism and generated text | A referral fee when an advisor matches a buyer to a vendor. The "Sponsored" sort runs from highest bid to lowest |
A sponsored listing is a product profile whose vendor pays the review site for traffic or leads. Sponsorship changes the order you see, so change the sort order before you read a category page.
- Capterra suits a first pass: 65 funeral home products and 483 reviews, the largest set. Limitation: 35 of those products had no reviews.
- G2 suits a second opinion, because it holds a separate set. Limitation: 26 reviews across 79 listings.
- GetApp suits comparing up to four products side by side. Limitation: its review counts matched Capterra’s.
- Software Advice suits an owner who wants to talk to an advisor. Limitation: the site may earn a referral fee from the vendor the advisor recommends.
How many reviews does each funeral home software product have?
On September 28, 2026, review counts for the twelve products below ranged from 95 to none. Every figure was read that day on the review site’s own category page, or for PlotBox on G2, its product page. "Not in category" means the product did not appear in that site’s funeral home category. The product may still have a page elsewhere on the site.
| Product, as listed | Capterra | G2 | GetApp | Software Advice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PlotBox | 4.7 (95 reviews) | Listed under cemetery software, 0 reviews | 4.7 (95 reviews) | 4.75 (95 reviews) |
| Osiris | 4.7 (65 reviews) | 3/5 (3 reviews) | 4.7 (65 reviews) | 4.66 (65 reviews) |
| Gather | 4.9 (39 reviews) | 4.9/5 (7 reviews) | 4.9 (39 reviews) | 4.90 (39 reviews) |
| Halcyon | 4.8 (38 reviews) | Listed, 0 reviews | 4.8 (38 reviews) | 4.82 (38 reviews) |
| Passare | 4.6 (13 reviews) | 5/5 (1 review) | 4.6 (13 reviews) | Not in category |
| SRS Computing (Procession) | 4.7 (7 reviews) | Listed, 0 reviews | Not in category | Not in category |
| FuneralTech (MiMS Elite) | 4.2 (5 reviews) | Listed, 0 reviews | Not in category | Not in category |
| The Director’s Assistant | 5.0 (4 reviews) | 4.8/5 (2 reviews) | 5.0 (4 reviews) | 5.0 (4 reviews) |
| CRaKN (Tribute Management Software) | 5.0 (4 reviews) | Listed, 0 reviews | 5.0 (4 reviews) | 5.0 (4 reviews) |
| FDMS Network | 3.0 (2 reviews) | Listed, 0 reviews | Not in category | Not in category |
| Mortware Professional | 3.0 (1 review) | Listed, 0 reviews | Not in category | Not in category |
| FuneralHQ | Not in category | Not in category | Not in category | Not in category |
Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice showed the same review count for every product that appeared on all three. Treat those three columns as one body of reviews. G2 holds a second, smaller body, in which Gather’s 7 reviews were the highest count.
Product names differ between sites. CRaKN appears on Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice as Tribute Management Software, and SRS Computing’s product appears on G2 as Procession. For what each product does, see the comparisons of Gather alternatives, Osiris alternatives, Halcyon alternatives and CRaKN alternatives.
Why do funeral software products have so few reviews?
The likely reason funeral software products have few reviews is that the market is small. According to the National Funeral Directors Association, 15,401 funeral homes operate in the United States, and approximately 75% are family or privately owned (NFDA statistics page, updated September 29, 2025). Capterra lists 65 products in its funeral home category. Split evenly, by this article’s arithmetic, that is about 237 funeral homes for each product.
Review totals tell the same story. G2 said in January 2026 that the four sites together hold 6 million reviews across more than 2,000 categories. By this article’s arithmetic, that is an average of under 3,000 reviews per category. Capterra’s funeral home category showed 483 reviews on September 28, 2026. Six products held 354 of the 483.
G2’s scoring documentation says a product needs at least 10 reviews in a category to be included in a Grid report. No product in G2’s funeral home category had 10 reviews on September 28, 2026. For how the vendors themselves are changing, read the funeral home software market in 2026.
How do you read a funeral home software review?
Read a software review for facts you can check, and leave the star rating until you have read the text. Six things decide how much weight a review deserves.
| What to check | What to look for | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Reviewer role and firm size | Owner, director or office manager. One location or several | A firm your size has your problems |
| Date | Written in the past two years | An old review describes an old product |
| Specifics | A named task: a contract, a price list, an accounting sync | An adjective cannot be tested. A named task can be tried on a demo |
| Vendor reply | A reply that addresses the point raised | The reply shows how the vendor treats an unhappy customer |
| Reviews in a batch | Several reviews dated within a few days of each other | The reviews may have been invited in one campaign, which is allowed. The sample is a chosen one |
| Incentive label | Capterra’s "Reviewer Source" icon, G2’s "Incentivized" label | Both sites allow small incentives that do not depend on the rating, and both mark them |
Ownership is the detail a review leaves out. A review written before a product changed hands describes the company as it was then. Check who owns funeral software companies before you rely on an older review.
What does the FTC say about fake reviews?
The Federal Trade Commission bans fake reviews and testimonials under a final rule it announced on August 14, 2024. The FTC’s guidance says the Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials went into effect on October 21, 2024, and that courts may impose civil penalties for knowing violations. The rule tells you what a vendor may not do.
| Practice | What is prohibited |
|---|---|
| Fake reviews | Writing, buying or selling a review by someone who does not exist or did not use the product, including a review generated by AI |
| Paying for a sentiment | Offering payment or another incentive on condition that the review is positive, or negative |
| Insider reviews | A review by an officer, manager, employee or agent that does not clearly disclose the connection |
| Company-controlled review sites | Presenting a website the company controls as a source of independent reviews |
| Review suppression | Using groundless legal threats, intimidation or false accusations to remove a negative review |
| Fake social proof | Buying or selling fake followers or views to misrepresent influence |
The FTC’s guidance also says what is allowed. A business may ask its customers for reviews, and may offer an incentive, as long as nothing requires the review to express a particular opinion. This section is general information and not legal advice. Ask a lawyer how the rule applies to a specific review.
What beats a funeral home software review?
A reference call beats any review. A reference call is a phone conversation with another funeral home that uses the product, arranged so you can ask how the software behaves in an ordinary week. A reference call lets you ask the follow-up question.
Ask each vendor for three references, in these words: "Please give me three funeral homes about my size, one of which went live in the past twelve months." Then call without the vendor on the line, and use this script.
- Open. "This is [name] from [firm] in [town]. [Vendor] gave me your name. Do you have ten minutes to tell me how the software works for you?"
- Set the ground rule. "Nothing you say goes back to the vendor."
- Start with the work. "Walk me through your last case, from the first call to the final payment. Where did you leave the software?"
- Ask for the worst day. "When did something last go wrong, and how long did the vendor take to fix it?"
- Ask for the next name. "Who else uses it? May I call them?" That firm is one the vendor did not pick.
- Close. "Would you choose the same product again today?"
What should you ask a reference about switching?
Ask a reference what data came across, what the old vendor provided, and how long the changeover took. No public source gives a typical changeover time for funeral home software, so ask a firm your size for the time in weeks, from signing to the first live case.
- Data to export. Cases, family contacts, preneed contracts, documents, the price list and open balances. Ask which arrived intact and which were retyped.
- Questions for the old vendor. What file format is the export in, is there a charge, and how long does access last after cancellation?
- The changeover. Did the firm run both systems side by side, and for how long?
The migration guide sets out the steps, and how to export funeral home data before switching covers the export itself.
What should you test yourself on a demo?
Test one real case on the demo, entered live, from the first call to the final payment. A demo is where you check the points you found in reviews and heard on reference calls. Bring a past case with the names changed, and bring the person who will use the software every day.
- Ask the vendor to enter your case while you watch.
- Build the Statement of Funeral Goods and Services from your own price list.
- Send a document for signature to your own phone.
- Take a payment and see where it lands in your accounting software.
- Export the case and open the file.
Write down anything the vendor says will be shown later. The questions to ask during a funeral home software demo and the 35-question software checklist cover the rest.
What are the warning signs in funeral software reviews?
The warning signs are claims that cannot be traced to a site, a count and a date. The list below applies to every vendor, FuneralHQ included.
- A "top rated" claim that rests on fewer than ten reviews.
- A rating quoted with no site named and no date.
- Reviews that appear only on the vendor’s own website.
- A gift offered only in exchange for a positive review, which the FTC rule prohibits.
- A vendor that cannot, or will not, give you three references.
Warning signs beyond reviews are in funeral home software red flags. To weigh vendors side by side, use how to compare funeral home software vendors.
How FuneralHQ handles this
FuneralHQ publishes this article and sells funeral home software, so FuneralHQ is one of the products in the table above. FuneralHQ did not appear in the funeral home category on Capterra, G2, GetApp or Software Advice on September 28, 2026, and has no review-site rating to show you. FuneralHQ points buyers to a live demo on a real case, from first call intake to final payment, and to the status table on the features page, which separates what is available from what is in development. For an overview, see the page on funeral home management software.
Ask any vendor for references, FuneralHQ included, and call them without the vendor on the line. If a long public review record is a requirement for your firm, FuneralHQ does not meet it today. A product with dozens of reviews, such as Osiris, Gather or Halcyon, will suit you better on that point.
Questions to ask a reference
Ask every reference the same questions in the same order, so the answers can be compared.
- How long have you used the product, and what did you use before?
- How many locations and how many cases a year do you handle with it?
- Which tasks do you still do outside the software?
- When you last called support, how long did an answer take?
- Has the price changed since you signed, and by how much?
- What did the vendor promise on the demo that you are still waiting for?
- How long did the changeover take, and what data had to be retyped?
Common questions about funeral home software reviews
Are there any reviews for PlotBox?
Yes. On September 28, 2026, Capterra showed PlotBox at 4.7 from 95 reviews, the highest count in its funeral home category. GetApp and Software Advice showed the same 95. G2 lists PlotBox under cemetery software, with no reviews. Check that a reviewer runs a business like yours.
Where can I read Passare reviews?
Capterra and GetApp each showed Passare at 4.6 from 13 reviews on September 28, 2026. G2 showed one review. Passare did not appear in Software Advice’s funeral home category that day. Thirteen reviews can be read in one sitting, so read them all.
Where can I read Gather funeral software reviews?
Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice each showed Gather at 4.9 from 39 reviews on September 28, 2026. G2 showed 4.9 from 7 reviews, the highest count in its funeral home category. Capterra lists two products named Gather. The funeral home product is the one with 39 reviews.
Which funeral home software has the best reviews?
Review counts are too small to name a winner. On Capterra, the six funeral home category products with 38 or more reviews were rated between 4.6 and 4.9 on September 28, 2026. Use reviews to build a list of questions, then compare vendors on a demo and by reference call.
Are the reviews on Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice different?
The review counts were identical on September 28, 2026 for every product in this article that appeared on all three sites. Osiris showed 65 on each, and Halcyon 38. G2 agreed in January 2026 to buy all three from Gartner. Read one of the three, then read G2, which holds a separate and smaller set.
Can a vendor pay a review site for a better rating?
The sites describe payment as buying placement. Capterra and GetApp say sponsored profiles may appear first in a list, and that reviews are unaffected by whether a provider pays. Software Advice sorts its sponsored view by bid. G2 says it allows no paid placement in ratings, rankings or reports. Look at the review count beside each rating.
Can a software vendor offer a gift card for a review?
Yes, within limits. The FTC’s guidance says a business may offer an incentive if nothing requires the review to express a particular opinion. G2 caps an incentive at $100 and labels the review "Incentivized". Capterra allows incentives of nominal value, offered equally whatever the rating. A gift offered only for a positive review breaks the FTC rule.
Does FuneralHQ have reviews on Capterra or G2?
No. FuneralHQ did not appear in the funeral home category on Capterra, G2, GetApp or Software Advice on September 28, 2026, so there is no rating to quote. Judge FuneralHQ as you would any vendor: watch a real case entered on a demo, read the status table on the features page, and ask for references.
